Flogentec is an automated device that can determine with a high degree of accuracy, the expression of genes or proteins in biological samples. Whereas mRNAs are specifically targeted using the Wholemount In Situ Hybridization (WISH) principle, proteins are detected with specific antibodies and secondary antibodies.
Biological specimens are placed in the basket which is made of a plastic ring, at the bottom of which is a sieve. Many of them are stacked in a column made of quartz (the so called Flow Cell). Solution flow within the Flow cells, the quartz incubation chambers, is driven from the bottom to the top, using a system made up of reservoirs, tubing, a pump, and selector valves managed by computer hardware. This dynamic incubation process in combination with a precise temperature control system ensures the efficient transfer of probes and antibodies to the samples' core and optimizes the washing of samples, reducing dilution levels of solvents and increasing the overall efficiency of the process.
The final result is a highly efficient, user-friendly, automatic system which can radically improve both the speed and the quality of Wholemount mapping research projects.
